Little platypuses!

5/8 Started off on our little trip to explore a few NP and State forests North of Brisbane and West of 1770. Our first night was spent camped by the Borumba Dam near Imbil. Good campsite, well looked after and great hot showers. I took my little canoe for a paddle up the river. Its the first time we have taken it so it was good to have access to the water and have a play. Lovely to sit by the fire and watch the comets and shooting stars again.

6/8 Bloody cold night and morning. we had a short walk and then drove to the dam for a few photos then headed off into the woods! We didn't go far which was really different for us. We normally try to get in about 500 km in a day on our long trips but we managed to do less than 50! Found the Cedar Creek campsite in the Amamoor SF. Next morning proved to be a bit testing. The fridge wasn't working properly and we realised we had an extra passenger on board. Steve fixed the fridge, of course, and then accidentally found the furry little critter that had managed to partly munch 4 apples, 3 potatoes and destroy a good towel. I'm not sure who was more surprised when Steve opened the clove box! Scooping him out turned into agony for Steve when he wrenched his sore shoulder. We found our next stop at Booyal between Gin Gin and Childers. We realised we had tried to find this campsite on our last trip up this way but couldn't find it then. So glad we found it this time, it is fantastic. We took the camp chairs down to the river and were stunned to see at least two Platypus swimming around right in front of us at 4pm!

7/8 It was a very cold night and when I reluctantly got up to make the tea I saw white out! Frost everywhere. There was a thick layer of mist rolling across the top of the river and it was just fantastic. I shouted Steve to get up quick and we both grabbed our cameras and chairs and spent the next hour taking photos and watching more Playtypus antics. I canoed, Steve fished and we both went for a walk. Absolutely lovely. We're never leaving!
